History of the CAP & GOWN

Originating at Oxford in England in the 12th & 13th Century, the cap and gown were worn to express the person’s academic endeavors. It also served as an extra garment to keep warm in the cold halls of medieval universities.

Cords are two braided ropes to be worn over your cap and gown. If your class is also using stoles, the cord goes on top of the stole. Cords can be used for: Officers, Honor Students, First graduates within a family, community service and more.
